‘Wayward Pines’ To Launch Globally On May 14

Fox Broadcasting Company and Fox International Channels will premiere the 10-episode psychological thriller Wayward Pines at 9 PM May 14 domestically and in 125 countries  — one year after Fox greenlighted the project. Fox says the global debut will be the world’s largest day-and-date launch for a scripted series.

The event series is based on a best-selling novel by Blake Crouch, and executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Donald De Line, Chad Hodge and Ashwin Rajan.

Matt Dillon (Crash) stars as a Secret Service agent on a mission to find two missing federal agents in the bucolic Idaho town of Wayward Pines. The cast also includes Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Terrence Howard (Crash), Carla Gugino (Entourage), Shannyn Sossamon (How To Make It In America), Toby Jones (Infamous), Reed Diamond (24), Tim Griffin (Prime Suspect), Charlie Tahan (Charlie St. Cloud) and Juliette Lewis (Cape Fear).

Wayward Pines was one of the first two event series projects Fox put in development at the beginning of 2013, under the network’s then-new mandate to make a push in that area. It marks Shyamalan’s first TV project. At Mipcom in October, he said the experience taught him a lot. “I’m super-precious, and probably in a very bad way, with my thrillers – no one changes a word, every shot is designed and that’s positive up to a point. Then when we were doing this — [TV] guys move so fast. It’s unreal how fast you guys move and how much material you guys have to master,” he said, addressing his co-panelists, Sherlock and Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, BBC Worldwide’s The Refugees exec producer Ben Donald and Intruders showrunner Glen Morgan. “It made me less precious on the set. … It loosened me up…For me it was a great process.”

Wayward Pines, from FX Productions, was developed for television by Hodge (The Playboy Club, Runaway) and executive-produced by De Line (Green Lantern, The Italian Job), Rajan (Devil), Hodge and Shyamalan.  Hodge wrote and Shyamalan directed the premiere episode.
