‘Nightcrawler’ Crawling Back Into Theaters In Awards Push

Open Road Films is returning the Jake Gyllenhaal-starrer Nightcrawler to theaters nationwide beginning Friday. The pic, written and directed by Dan Gilroy, opened in the top spot when it bowed on Halloween and has grossed $28.8M domestically since. It is getting fresh awards-season life after a strong showing last week at the Indie Spirit Awards nominations, where it landed five noms including for Gyllenhaal’s performance. Yesterday, the National Board Of Review named it one of the year’s 10 best films.

To stoke interest, members of industry guilds and organizations can see the pic for free.

The move comes at a good time in the box office cycle, with only one new national release, Fox’s horror pic The Pyramid, due out this week. Most other pics are still in the shadows of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I, which is entering its third frame.
