‘Sleepy Hollow’ Finale, ‘The Voice’ Ratings Inch Up

Despite a dip in the adults 18-49 usage last night, -5% from last Monday, most programs ticked up in the ratings from last week when primetime was disrupted by coverage of the unrest in Ferguson.

NBC’s The Voice (2.7) and State of Affairs (1.6) both were up a tenth in the fast nationals. The Voice‘s gain will definitely hold up and may grow to two tenths in the finals. We will have to wait and see if State of Affairs‘ .1 rise will carry over to Live+Same Day but the drama will at least be on par with last week. The modest Week 3 rebound/hold was important for State of Affairs after the steep, -31% Week 2 drop. The rookie still is way below the delivery of its predecessor in the slot, The Blacklist and faced lesser competition last night from a repeat on CBS and a weakened Castle (1.5) on ABC but it still will finish No.1 in the 10 PM hour, by itself or tied with Castle. NBC easily won the night in 18-49 (2.3) and total viewers (9.7 million).

Sleepy Hollow and Castle headed in opposite directions as they lost their original lead-ins. With Gotham in repeat vs new episode last week (1.0 vs. 2.3 demo rating), the midseason finale of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow (1.5) still managed to go up a tenth from last Monday and may add another tenth in the finals.

Meanwhile, Castle (1.5) was down two tenths to tie a low from last week when it followed Dancing with the Stars (2.5). Last night, its lead-in was the CMA Country Christmas two-hour special which drew a respectable 1.6 in 18-49, up a tenth from last year.

CBS aired a two-hour Mike & Molly marathon of repeats to promote the series’ return next Monday, followed by a Scorpion rerun. The CW saw pretty decent numbers from its holiday specials, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer (0.4) and Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown (0.4), with the latter matching the delivery of the original Jane the Virgin in the 9 PM hour last week.
