‘Dancing With The Stars’ Finale Ratings Hit 4-Season High, ‘The Voice’ Down, ‘Flash’ & ‘Mindy Project’ Even

In the end it came down to a final three, three final dances and then Season 19 of Dancing With The Stars (2.9/9) had a celebrity winner on the final Tuesday of the November sweep. With partner Witney Carson, former Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro had been the favorite for most of the season and the man who brought the world “the Carlton” took the prize. ABC didn’t do too badly either. Easily the highest-rated show of the night and hitting a season high, the S19 finale was up 21% among adults 18-49 from the last fall finale on November 26 last year. It was also up the same from the Season 18 finale this spring on May 20. With 15.8 million watching, last night’s DWTS was not only the most watched show on Tuesday, but up over 1 million viewers from the Season 17 finale.

All of which made the 9 – 11 PM S19 finale the highest-rated and most watched DWTS since September 16, 2013 and the best season-ender result since November 27, 2012. That show got a 3.0/8 in the demo and 16.7 million viewers overall. The 1-hour recap DWTS Road To The Finals (1.9/6) lead-in was up 11% over the similar clip show for the Season 18 finals on May 20 this year. Which means, if you hadn’t guessed, ABC solidly won the night with a 2.6/8 rating and 14.31 million watching.

On NBC, the reality road to their finals continued as The Voice (2.3/7) had more eliminations to reach a Season 7 Top 8. However, heading towards the finale of next month, last night’s 1-hour live show was down 15% from last week’s show. There was a double blow for the Voice actually. Unlike most Tuesdays this season, an original Voice was not the 8 PM slot winner among the demo. Even though it dipped 8% from last week’s strong showing, CBS vet NCIS (2.4/8) took the top spot for the first time. However, with The Voice commonly seeing adjustments in the final number, that result could change. Fellow 8 PM slotters The Flash (1.4/4) and MasterChef Junior (1.5/5) were both even with their November 18 shows

The same could not be said for Marry Me (1.1/3), which had a 1-minute overrun from Voice, and About A Boy (1.0/3). Facing the DWTS finale and on a night that saw demo usage down about 5% on average from last week, the NBC comedies were down 27% and 23% from last week. Over on Fox, their comedies New Girl (1.3/4) and The Mindy Project (1.1/3) held up much better against the DWTS finale with a 7% slip for the former and an even with last week for the latter. The CW’s Supernatural (0.9/3) was down 10% from last week. At 10 PM, during the second hour of the DWTS finale, Chicago Fire (1.6/5) fell 24%.

On the flipside, CBS’ NCIS: New Orleans (2.3/7) and Person Of Interest (1.7/5) were basically unaffected by the DWTS finale. The 9 PM former was even with last week while the 10 PM latter actually bopped up 6%.
