George Cheeks Named Head Of NBC Late-Night

EXCLUSIVE: George Cheeks has just been named head of late-night television at NBC, adding it to his existing portfolio. Cheeks, who spends about half his time in New York, will work with Alternative and Late Night Programming President Paul Telegdy overseeing late-night. His new title will be EVP Business Operations and Late Night, NBC Entertainment.

cheeksNow that NBC’s late-night shows are up and running, Ted Harbert is stepping aside from his hands-on involvement in the network’s daypart. The NBC Broadcasting chairman has been very involved in developing and building the new studios for the Tonight Show‘s move to New York, and the relaunching of that show, among the network’s other late-night developments.

NBC hired Cheeks in April 2012 as a new chief deal negotiator. The veteran MTV Networks executive was named EVP Business Operations, NBC Entertainment and Universal Television, at that time. Cheeks was envisioned as a replacement for NBC veteran Marc Graboff, who had left the company to run American Idol parent company CKX. Cheeks has been overseeing business affairs for NBC Entertainment, production affairs for Universal Television and Universal Cable Production and music services for all of NBCUniversal.

Before that, he was EVP Business Affairs and General Counsel at Viacom Music and Entertainment Groups and Content Distribution & Marketing and Head of Standards & Practices for Viacom Media Networks.
