Lionsgate Dates ‘Criminal’ For Summer; ‘Mechanic’ Sequel Set For 2016, Adds Tommy Lee Jones & Jessica Alba

Lionsgate has announced release plans for a pair of pics from Summit Entertainment. The crime thriller Criminal will begin its spree with a wide release on August 21, and Mechanic: Resurrection — which has added Tommy Lee Jones and Jessica Alba to its cast — will hit theaters January 22, 2016. Helmer Ariel Vromen’s Criminal, which doesn’t have a firm release date, follows a CIA agent whose memories and skills are implanted into the brain of a dangerous outlaw in the hope of stopping an international terrorist. Kevin Costner, Ryan Reynolds, Gary Oldman, Gal Gadot, Alice Eve and Oscar winner Jones star.

Jason Statham returns as Arthur Bishop in Mechanic: Resurrection, the follow-up to the 2011 actioner that grossed $51 million worldwide. This time Bishop is forced back into the hitman trade by a figure from his past and is forced to complete an impossible list of assassinations of the most dangerous men in the world. Michelle Yoeh also stars. Dennis Gansel’s pic has the weekend to itself thus far.
