Blumhouse’s ‘Lazarus’ Gets February Release Date With Relativity Buy

Relativity Studios has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Lazarus, a horror film produced by Jason Blum’s genre hotbed Blumhouse Productions, and set a February 20, 2015 release date for it. Mark Duplass, Olivia Wilde, Evan Peters and Donald Glover star in the movie, about a group of medical students who discover a way to bring dead patients back to life that sounds quite a bit like the 1990 Kiefer Sutherland-Julia Roberts pic Flatliners.

David Gelb directed the script by Luke Dawson (Shutter) and Jeremy Slater (the new The Fantastic Four). Blum, Cody Zweig, Matt Kaplan and Jimmy Miller produce and Luke Dawson and Gloria Fan executive produce. Lionsgate is handling international distribution.

This marks the second project between Relativity and Blumhouse after teaming on Oculus, which the studio acquired at Toronto in 2013. That pic, released this April, did $44M worldwide. Blumhouse is coming off two No. 1 box office weekends in a row with Ouija.
