Kent Rees Named Pivot General Manager; President Evan Shapiro Exits

There is a change at the top of Participant Media’s Pivot network targeting Millennials. EVP Marketing Kent Rees has been named general manager, reporting to Participant Media CEO Jim Berk. Pivot president Evan Shapiro is leaving. I hear Shapiro, the former president of IFC TV and Sundance Channel, is considering several other opportunities and will announce plans in the coming weeks. A return to IFC and Sundance is among the possibilities I hear.

Participant HeadshotsRees was part of the founding team of executives that launched the network and has overseen day-to-day operations for the channel, which went live on cable, satellite and online in August 2013. “Pivot is a growing network with a strong pipeline of original content and has expanded carriage to over 47 million homes,” Berk said. “During this time, Kent played an integral role in establishing the Pivot brand and managing overall channel operations. We thank Evan for helping to build Pivot into the successful network that it is today. ”

Since its launch, Pivot, designed to carry the social message that the Participant brand is known for, has aired more than 300 hours of original programming including the Emmy-winning Hitrecord On TV. Pivot will premiere Fortitude, its first scripted drama, in January 2015.

While Pivot is not rated, Shapiro said in May that viewership was ahead of projections.
