‘The McCarthys’ Review: Dominic Patten On CBS’ Seen-It-Before Comedy

It was a long, twisting road getting The McCarthys on the air, but just maybe they should have taken more time. As my video reviews says, the CBS sitcom of a sports-obsessed Irish-American family in Boston feels like something you’ve seen before, a lot.

Created by Boston native and Happy Endings writer Brian Gallivan, The McCarthys stars Tyler Ritter as the openly gay son given the chance to work as assistant to his basketball coach father, despite the protests of his brothers. Hot tempers and one-liners ensue.

Jack McGee and Laurie Metcalf play the clan’s parents with Newsroom regular Kelen Coleman as the sister. The objecting brothers are played by Jimmy Dunn and Joey McIntyre (of New Kids On The Block fame).

On a heavy night of comedy for the network, The McCarthys airs at 9:30 tonight, right after Two And A Half Men debuts for its twelfth and final season.

Take a look at my review. Will you watch the show? Let me what you think.
