Zackary Arthur (Transparent), Teo Briones (Ratched), Alyvia Alyn Lind (Daybreak) and Björgvin Arnarson (The Seventh Day) are set to star as series regulars and the four teen leads of USA Network and Syfy’s Chucky, from the movie franchise creator/writer Don Mancini. Jennifer Tilly, reprising her role as Tiffany Valentine from the movies, and Devon Sawa (Final Destination) will recur on the project, ordered straight-to-series last year.
The new Chucky incarnation revolves around the character at the center of the horror/slasher Child’s Play film series, the red-haired, freckled-faced doll possessed by the soul of notorious serial killer, Charles Lee Ray. In the television series, after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.
Arthur will play Jake Webber. An easy target for Chucky, Jake is a loner trying to find his place in the world after his mom’s death while never connecting with his dad or his peers.
Briones will play Junior Webber. Bree and Logan’s son and Jake’s cousin. He is the all-American, over-achieving, jock – the opposite of his loner cousin Jake.
Lind is Lexy Taylor. Self-appointed princess of her school and Jake’s primary bully, who also dates his cousin Junior.
Arnarson portrays Devon Lopez. Boy-next-door and true-crime junkie, Devon is hellbent on making sense of Hackensack’s mysterious tragedies, both past and present.
Devon Sawa’s character is being kept under wraps
The series, produced by UCP, is executive produced by creator-showrunner Mancini and producer David Kirschner, Harley Peyton as well as Channel Zero creator Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund via Antosca’s studio-based Eat the Cat banner. Mancini will direct the first episode. Filming is slated to begin next month in Toronto.
In 1988, Chucky slashed his way into the pop culture zeitgeist with the premiere of Child’s Play directed and co-written by Tom Holland, Kirschner, and based on a story by Mancini. It spawned six sequels, all of which Mancini wrote and Kirschner produced. Mancini also directed three of the films in the franchise: Seed of Chucky (2004), Curse of Chucky (2013) and Cult of Chucky (2017).
Tilly, who had indicated a year ago that she was open to joining the Chucky TV series, has played Tiffany in several Chucky movies, starting with the 1998 Bride of Chucky. She is repped by A3 Artists Agency and managed by Sue Leibman at Barking Dog Entertainment. Sawa is repped by Artists First and Gersh.
