CAA tonight signed David Leitch, the former stuntman who co-directed John Wick, and helmed Deadpool 2, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and Atomic Blonde. Agency also signed his wife and creative partner Kelly McCormick and their company 87North.
Leitch had been repped by WME and just recently was set to direct Bullet Train, the Sony Pictures action movie that will star Brad Pitt. That Zak Olkewicz scripted action film is based on the Japanese novel Maria Beetle by Kotaro Isaka. In the novel, five assassins find themselves on a fast-moving bullet train from Tokyo to Morioka with only a few stops in between. They discover their missions are not unrelated to one another. The question becomes, who will make it off the train alive and what awaits them at the terminal station. Leitch and McCormick produce Bullet Train with Antoine Fuqua and Kat Samick.
Between Hobbs & Shaw, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde and the first John Wick, those films have grossed $2.2 billion in global ticket sales. Their upcoming films include the Bob Odenkirk-starrer Nobody for Universal Pictures and Netflix’s Kate starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Woody Harrelson. They are developing Violent Night, Versus and Kung Fu through their Universal first look, and have the Amblin film My Dakar Victory and Fast & Loose through STX. Leitch also co-owns and co-founded the stunt design company 87Eleven Action Design, with Chad Stahelski, who directs the John Wick films.
