Rachel Brosnahan goes noir for Saturday Night Live’s latest promo, dipping back in time and fashion beyond even her late ’50s-early ’60s Mrs. Maisel era.
“I had seen it many times before,” a cigarette-smoking, trench coat-wearing Brosnahan intones in the black-and-white Big Sleep-style clip, evoking both Bogie and Bacall. “But here I was. Saturday Night Live, where it all went down.
“But something was different. Where was the cast? It felt a little too dead.”
Enter Kenan Thompson, who explains what’s what and even manages to work in that longtime bit of internet nonsense Froosday. Google it.
Brosnahan, who recently won a Golden Globe Award for her starring role in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, makes her SNL hosting debut this weekend (the January 19 episode also marks the show’s return from its annual holiday hiatus). Musical guest is Greta Van Fleet.
Glass star James McAvoy will host the NBC sketch comedy series on January 26, with musical guest Meek Mill.
