The stars of Project Runway, including supermodel Karlie Kloss, are aiming to showcase the changing nature of a fashion industry obsessed with Instagram and online shopping as the show comes “full circle” with its return to Bravo via Magical Elves.
Speaking on day one of TCA, Kloss said, “The fact that [I] first watched this show when [I was] in a very different places in [my] life and now is a part of the industry and the experiences and the journey is why I’m so excited to be a part of this show. We’re in the thick of our multi-hyphenate careers and that’s just the nature of the world today in fashion and part of the challenge of becoming a designer in this new landscape is that you have to be social media savvy and have to know what you want to say through your designs and this is a platform that reaches so many and is an amazing pipeline to launch careers.”

Kloss called it an “honor” to work on a show with an “incredible legacy”.
Garcia, the Elle editor-in-chief who has been with the show since season one, said that the show was now dealing with an “amplified” fashion world. “If we look back at the huge impact that the show has had on the culture itself, it was really the first show that cracked open the curtains to look into what was going on in the fashion industry. The show was giving designers a platform and to fast forward 15 years later to have the originals, Jane and Dan back, we come full circle but now it’s so amplified.”
Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, who run Magical Elves, return to produce alongside Lantern Entertainment.
Lipsitz admitted that she cried when she returned to the show. “It was a really important show for us that launched our career; it was like getting your baby back.” Cutforth added, “One of the things that has really changed since we were doing the show is that the barrier to entry is that little bit lower because people have access to the world via Instagram and can sell clothes online.”
The pair would, however, not be drawn on whether any of the spin-offs that existed on former home Lifetime, would transfer to the NBCU-owned network.
Kloss is joined in the new season of the show with former Project Runway champion and fashion designer Christian Siriano as the mentor alongside fashion designer Brandon Maxwell and former Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Elaine Welteroth, as 16 new designers compete for a chance to show their collection and win a cash prize. Siriano replaces Tim Gunn, who exited to work with Heidi Klum on a fashion reality series for Amazon. Cutforth said that the pair had endorsed Siriano, who won season four of the show. “Tim and Heidi have been such a great part of show since the beginning and were really supportive of new direction.”
