Kat Coiro has been tapped to direct Happy Accident, ABC’s single-camera family comedy pilot from Modern Family writers Abraham Higginbotham and Jon Pollack, 20th Century Fox TV and ABC Studios.

Written and executive produced by Higginbotham and Pollack, Happy Accident centers around two Pittsburgh families — a father with three adult daughters, and a hotel lounge singer with her med student son — who are forced together after a decades-old secret is revealed.

Happy Accident marks the third pilot directing gig for Coiro and also reunites her with Higginbotham and Pollack, with whom she worked recently on Modern Family. Last season, she helmed Fox’s single-camera comedy pilot Daddy Issues, also produced by 20th TV, from actress-writer Erin Foster and New Girl creator Liz Meriwether, and Florida Girls, which was ordered to series at Pop. Probably best known for her 2013 film And While We Were Here, Coiro also has directed episodes of ABC/20th TV’s Single Parents, Fox/20th TV’s The Mick as well as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Alone Together, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce and Mozart in the Jungle. She is repped by CAA and 3 Arts.
