EXCLUSIVE: Jason Bateman has set a deal with Netflix to direct an untitled action comedy script by Game Night and Accepted screenwriter Mark Perez. Bateman will produce with Michael Costigan through their Aggregate Films banner, teaming with Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth. Casting is underway but Bateman will not star in it.
Bateman staked Aggregate to a first look deal last summer, after the productive relationship he has enjoyed through two seasons of Ozark, and Arrested Development. Aggregate became one of several Netflix talent deals that range from Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy on the TV side, to Adam Sandler, Ian Bryce, Matt Reeves, and Bryan Unkeless and Eric Newman.
The goal was to give Bateman and Costigan a home to generate film and TV. They aren’t saying anything specific about the new film, but the deal is done and it is on a fast track.
Bateman is repped by CAA and Lighthouse; Perez is ICM Partners.
