Look out Gotham City, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is all dressed up for fun. The scene-stealing star of Suicide Squad is returning to the role of the DC Comics wild-card wild child for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), an R-rated Warner Bros. romp through Batman’s grim hometown. Today the I, Tonya star shared an image of her new Harley look while Fandango released an attention-grabbing new teaser trailer. You can find both below.
Now filming in Los Angeles, Birds of Prey is being directed by Cathy Yan and also features Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the Huntress, Ewan McGegor as Black Mask, Jurnee Smollet-Bell as Black Canary and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya. The dark-edged crime film from director Cathy Yan is part of the Warner Bros. wave of edgy DC Comics adaptations (along with the upcoming Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix) that are more stand-alone than the intricately connected narratives that have become a foundation of rival Disney’s Marvel Studios approach to superhero cinema.

Harley Quinn may be the most in-demand screen character in the DC Universe these days. Robbie gives voice to the character in the upcoming Lego Movie sequel. A version of the character has been in the mix on Fox’s Gotham, now in its fifth and final season. And Kaley Cuoco of Big Bang Theory fame will voice the title character of the animated series Harley Quinn, which will follow the daft and diabolical villainess in an adult-edged series launching later this year on DC Universe, the subscription streaming site.
Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will be released Feb. 7, 2020.
