President Donald Trump’s use of the fictional Game of Thrones Wall to push his agenda for a similar barrier along the Mexican border has found an audience. Unfortunately for him, it’s mostly the more liberal fan boys and girls, who point out that walls don’t work.
The Commander-in-Tweet re-pinned his GOT “The Wall Is Coming” Instagram meme to the top of his account today, creating a fresh surge of outrage among show purists, many of them already frothing at the mouth from the original joke and the current government partial shutdown over the real-life wall.
SPOILER ALERT ON THE WALL:
If you’re not a fan of Game of Thrones, you may not be aware of the Wall, a mystical barrier between North and South that stretches for 300 miles.
In the show, the barrier keeps so-called “Wildlings” who live in the North out of the Seven Kingdoms, as well as barring the White Walkers, giants and other inhabitants of the frigid land. The Wall is over 700 feet tall and made of solid ice.
However, in the finale of last season, the Night King converted one of the Daenerys Targaryen dragons to his cause, and the beast’s fiery breath managed to melt the ice Wall, thereby affording a free passage into the territory for the Night King’s undead hordes.
That seems to be the sticking point for those riled up by Trump’s meme.
