You know what viewers don’t want to watch as President Donald Trump shuts down the government to extract their tax dollars for his Border Wall?
Authorities patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border!
Discovery Channel’s ambitious six-part limited series Border Live! turned into a three-parter when the network pulled the plug after the December 19 episode, owing to disappointing ratings, just 430K viewers. The original play pattern called for three weeks of Bill Weir-hosted episodes before the holidays, followed by three weeks after the break. The network ended the project after the first batch, Discovery confirmed.
Border Live! featured live reports from the border, as well as stories from investigative journalist Lilla Luciano from the field.
Imagine viewers not being excited about watching live reports from the U.S.-Mexico border, from crews embedded with officers and agents with the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations and the Transportation Security Administration and Customs and Border Protection.
Border Live! was the latest in the pantheon of cop ride-along reality series, in the vein of Cops and, more recently, Live PD. More recently, there had been talk about possible offshoots, veering into the world of paramedics and ER facilities.
