Add Fox & Friends to the conservatives who are mad as hell about Vice star Christian Bale’s Golden Globes invocation of Satan: Co-host Brian Kilmeade called the speech “a real insult.”
During a Fox & Friends segment titled “Hollywood Hate,” co-host Steve Doocy said, “There was Christian Bale being political – the show was otherwise politics free.” Co-host Kilmeade said, “It’s just a real insult to a guy who spent his whole life in public service, from secretary of defense, to chief of staff, to vice president of the United States. It makes Bush look terrible, Condoleezza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, especially.”
Kilmeade did acknowledge that Bale is “a really good actor” who “really despises Republicans especially Dick Cheney.”
What set off the Fox guys was Bale’s comment after winning a best actor Globe for his portrayal of Veep Dick Cheney in Adam McKay’s Vice. The actor included Satan in his list of thank-yours, “for giving me inspiration.”
Cheney’s daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney, was even angrier than the Fox friends, dredging up eleven-year-old (and long dismissed) assault charges made against the actor.
“Satan probably inspired him to do this, too,” Liz Cheney tweeted, along with a link to a 2008 article in The Independent headlined Christian Bale arrested for ‘assault on mother and sister.‘ Cheney didn’t explain that no charges were ultimately filed, and that the alleged assault apparently had been a shouting match.
Activists and agitpropsters The Church of Satan endorsed Bale’s comment. “To us, Satan is a symbol of pride, liberty and individualism, and it serves as an external metaphorical projection of our highest personal potential,” the Church tweeted. “As Mr. Bale’s own talent and skill won him the award, this is fitting. Hail Christian! Hail Satan!”
