EXCLUSIVE: Teen Wolf alumna Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson (Luke Cage) and Nicole Kang (You) have been cast in lead roles opposite Ruby Rose in Batwoman, the CW’s DC drama pilot from Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
Written by Caroline Dries based on the DC characters and directed by David Nutter, Batwoman marks the first gay lead character — male or female — of a live-action superhero series. It centers on Kate Kane (Rose) who soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
Tandy will play Sophie Moore. After graduating from military academy, Sophie rose through the ranks to become a high-level private security agent and one of Gotham’s staunchest protectors. Despite her bite and regimented outlook, Sophie has a soft side, illuminated by Kate Kane’s return.
Johnson will portray Luke Fox. A Dark Knight loyalist and son of Wayne’s R&D director Lucius Fox, Luke works to keep Wayne Tower secure in his boss’s absence. While Luke considers himself the guardian of all things Batman — specifically his symbol — he also recognizes the city’s need for a new hero.
Kang is Mary Hamilton. Excitable, talkative, and an influencer-in-the-making, Mary is Kate Kane’s step-sister and polar opposite. But what Mary lacks in a filter, she makes up for with her compassion for Gotham’s underserved communities, proving she has more in common with Kate than she thinks.
Dries and Nutter executive produce alongside Berlanti Prods.’ Berlanti and Sarah Schechter as well as former DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns via his new Mad Ghost Productions banner.
Tandy is known for her roles as Braeden on Teen Wolf, Chantal on UnReal and Allison on Survivor’s Remorse. She most recently recurred on the CW’s Charmed. Tandy is repped by Shannon McLaren, JKA Talent & Literary Agency and Stride-Management
Johnson recurred on Netflix’s Luke Cage and Hulu’s There’s Jonny and will be seen in the features The Sun Is Also A Star and Safe Spaces. He’s repped by Underground, Buchwald, and attorney Robert Koch.
Kang most recently recurred on Lifetime’s You, from Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble, which also is produced by Berlanti Prods. and WBTV. She’ll also be seen in upcoming episodes of Orange is the New Black and The Code. She’s repped by Buchwald and Authentic.
