Warner Bros/DC’s Aquaman keeps swimming up a storm as the origins story has now crossed the $700M mark at the international box office. With $702.9M in offshore waters through Wednesday, the fish-man now counts $971.5M worldwide, and is estimated to be charting a course for $1B global through Saturday.
Wednesday saw the Jason Momoa-starrer lap up a further $5.8M in 79 overseas markets. Already this past weekend, Aquaman topped The Dark Knight Rises to become the biggest DC movie ever abroad. The haul through yesterday makes the James Wan-directed pic the No. 3 release of 2018 internationally and No. 5 worldwide.
When Aquaman crosses $1B global, it will become the 5th 2018 release to do so. It will also join The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises as the only DC pics to the milestone, ultimately likely to top the former.
In Asia, Aquaman became WB’s highest-grossing movie ever during the last frame and has now reeled in $284.9M from China where it’s the No. 2 superhero pic of all time and is enjoying an extended run.
Beyond China, the Top 5 offshore markets are rounded out by Korea ($36.5M), Brazil ($30.1M), Mexico ($27.4M) and the UK ($24M). All of those are through Wednesday. We’ll be back over the coming days to track the heir to Atlantis’ ascendance.
