EXCLUSIVE: Book it. A+E Studios has signed an exclusive overall deal with Swoon Reads, a crowdsourced young-adult imprint of Macmillan Publishers. Under the two-year pact, A+E Studios will develop and produce YA novels for film and TV.
“All of us at Macmillan have believed in the Swoon Reads model as a way of discovering new voices,” said Jean Feiwel, SVP and publisher of Swoon Reads. “We are a community of writers and readers engaged in a common goal: looking for an opportunity to be read, to be critiqued and published — and now, with A+E Studios, possibly seen.”

Added Barry Jossen, Head of A+E Studios, who announced the deal with Feiwel: “A+E Studios has fast distinguished itself from competitors as an independent studio that fosters creativity, collaboration, and innovation. … Our mutual mission to source the best creative talent and deliver exceptional content that will resonate with the coveted YA audience will be realized by this partnership.”
Swoon was launched in 2013 by Feiwel, who has published such mega-successful book series as Harry Potter, Goosebumps and The Baby-Sitters Club. The imprint lets writers bypass the traditional model, uploading their manuscripts to its website. Readers help select which books get published and also have a voice throughout the publishing process, including voting on title, cover design and marketing ideas.
Macmillan was repped by APA in the deal.
