EXCLUSIVE: 25 Words or Less, a syndicated game show hosted and produced by Meredith Vieira, is sold in 75% of the country ahead of its debut this fall, Twentieth Television is reporting as NATPE kicks off in Miami.
Ken Lawson, SVP & General Sales Manager of Broadcast Sale for Twentieth, called the reception to the show “phenomenal” and said it has been sold into 125 markets. While Fox Television Stations are the core at launch, the show has also cleared stations owned by Sinclair, Gray, Hearst, CBS, Scripps, Northwest and Tribune.
25 Words is described as “a collaboration” of Lisa Kudrow, Dan Bucatinsky, Mary McCormack, Michael Morris, show-runner John Quinn, and Bruce Sterten, the creator of the board games 25 Words or Less and Taboo.
The show features two teams comprised of celebrities and civilians facing off in a fast-paced word game with a top prize of $10,000.
“Game is historically the most successful syndicated genre, and when matched with a line-up of strong station groups and key time periods,” Lawson said. “25 Words or Less is extremely well-positioned for success in the marketplace.”
Vieira is known for her lengthy anchoring and hosting stints on Today and The View, and also demonstrated a flair for game show hosting at the helm of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Most recently, she co-hosted of PBS and the BBC’s Royal Wedding Watch and hosted the PBS series The Great American Read. Vieira also executive produced the well-received 2016 documentary Tower, about the 1966 shooting massacre at the University of Texas at Austin.
25 Words or Less will be produced by Dino Bones Productions and distributed by Twentieth Television.
