EXCLUSIVE: Lionsgate is in final negotiations to acquire The French Quarter Will Not Be Spared, a vampire genre spec script written by Anthony Jaswinski. The film will be a co-production between Kenya Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society and The Picture Company.

Jaswinski is best known for scripting the sleeper shark hit The Shallows. Details for the script are being kept mum, but it is said to be a new take on the vampire genre set in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina. The goal is to make a visceral and socially relevant horror film in the vein of A Quite Place or Get Out.

Kenya Barris will produce along with The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman. Josh Feldman will oversee for Khalabo Ink Society. The producer deals are still being made.

Barris, who wrote the hit Girls Trip,  is getting more involved in the film side to go along with his booming TV business that includes creating black-ish and grown-ish, and signing an overall deal with Netflix. He’ll receive the PGA Visionary Award in January.

The Picture Company just wrapped Amblin’s horror/thriller Larry and is prepping Studiocanal’s action/thriller Gunpowder Milkshake.

Jaswinski is repped by Paradigm and Circle of Confusion, Barris by Artist First, and CAA.
