Sharknado star Ian Ziering is set for a key recurring role opposite Crystal Reed in Swamp Thing, the upcoming streaming drama series based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. The project, which hails from James Wan’s Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television, is set to premiere in 2019 on the DC Universe digital subscription service.
Ziering will play stuntman turned movie star Daniel Cassidy, who became semi-famous after playing the demonic Blue Devil. But now, eight years later, Cassidy finds himself living out his days in frustration, pining for his former fame while on a collision course with destiny.
Written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman, Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane (Reed) as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Wan, Verheiden, Dauberman, Michael Clear and Wiseman are executive producers alongside Len Wiseman who is set to direct.
Ziering, whose breakout role came in Beverly Hills 90210, is known most recently for his role as Fin Shepard in all six of Syfy’s Sharknado films. He has appeared in features Domino with Keira Knightley, That’s My Boy with Adam Sandler, and Malibu Rescue on Netflix, among others. He also made the semifinals on the fourth season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, with professional partner Cheryl Burke. Ziering is repped by Synergy Management.
