This week’s cold open on Saturday Night Live brings us to Eric Trump’s (Alex Moffat) bedroom and it is way past his bedtime — but his older bro Donald Jr. (Mikey Day) comes to make sure everything is okay. Turns out Eric thinks there is a boogie man in his closet. Spoiler alert: there is — and he is in the form of Robert De Niro as Robert Mueller.
“There’s no boogie man in your closet…have you been watching news again?” asks Donald Jr.
To comfort Eric’s fear that his big bro will be indicted (he surprisingly knows what the word means…more or less), Don Jr. reads him Twas the Night Before Christmas, but as expected, Eric has problems understanding the words from the book — starting with “twas.”

After Don Jr. leaves, Mueller — or as he puts it, “Dad’s friend from work” — pops up to have a talk with Eric even though he’s not allowed to talk him. But for him, it’s okay to talk with Mueller because it is clear that he doesn’t know anything unlike some of his daddy’s friends. Eric calls out some of his dad’s friends such as Mr. Pillowfort (Manafort), Mr. Papa John’s Pizza (Papadopoulos) and Mr. Cohen — who Mueller says he should call Federal Inmate 10358.
But Mueller assures Eric that no mater happens with his dad and his friends, “America is gonna be just fine.” He adds, “This is a country full of good people.”
Eric chimes in, “Yeah good people — like my dad!”
“Let’s put a pin that,” Mueller says.
Eric then says that Mueller is the worst thing to ever happen to his dad and Mueller corrects him: “No Eric, getting elected president was the worst thing to ever happen to your dad” — which drew a big applause break. Watch the video above.
