Scott Derrickson is set to return as the director of Disney/Marvel’s Doctor Strange sequel, which has Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as the title character, who was last seen disintegrating into dust-like particles at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
Stephen Strange was a brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon who, after a career-ending accident, discovers a world of sorcery, magic and world-bending dynamics that inevitably turns him into a superhero figure.
While audiences were in shock after the events of the last Avengers film, it’s no surprise that there will be life after the next installment, Avengers: Endgame, as the MCU enters into Phase 4 with planned releases for Black Panther 2, the Black Widow standalone, among others.
Doctor Strange opened in 2016 with an $85 million dollar weekend domestic box office take and went on to gross $677 million worldwide.
The sequel is slated to hit theaters in 2021.
