EXCLUSIVE: Matt Williams and John Pasquin, a writing, directing and producing team behind, together or singly, Roseanne, Home Improvement and Last Man Standing, are heading Off Broadway. Pasquin will direct Williams’ comic play Actually, We’re F**ked at the Cherry Lane Theatre in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village this spring.
Previews of the comedy are set to begin Tuesday, February 26, with an official opening on Thursday, March 7. The limited engagement runs through Sunday, April 7.
Casting will be announced soon.
Actually chronicles four Millennials who order take out, drink too much wine and argue over how to save the planet. They know they’re the generation to fix it, and are up to the task, until someone shares a life-changing announcement, and they begin to question whether they should really eat that sushi from the deli with the cat in the window.
Disney Settles 'Home Improvement' Profit-Sharing Suit After Six Years - Update
Williams, whose tumultuous working relationship with Roseanne Barr back in the ’80s led to his now legendary high-profile departure from the sitcom he created with the comedian, subsequently co-created and exec-produced Home Improvement for Tim Allen. Most recently, he’s an exec producer on What Men Want, the upcoming Taraji P. Henson comedy that gender-switches the 2000 Mel Gibson comedy What Women Want (which Williams produced).
Pasquin, the original producer and director for Allen’s Home Improvement and Last Man Standing, was most recently the director and co-exec producer for the 2018 Roseanne reboot. He didn’t follow the project through The Conners spin-off phase. Other TV and film credits include Cristela and The Santa Clause. He was an early director for Joe Papp’s Public Theatre and New York Shakespeare Festival, including Measure for Measure starring Meryl Streep and Sam Waterston.
Williams’ stage credits include Bruce Lee Is Dead and I’m Not Feeling Too Good Either, Jason and The Nun and Between Daylight and Boonville. His comedy Faithful Wives and Healthy Children was included in the 2017 new play reading series at Penguin Rep, and he’ll be developing psychological drama Fear for New Jersey’s Midtown Direct Rep theater later this year.
Actually, We’re F**ked will feature set design by Robin Vest, lighting design by Paul Miller, costume design by Theresa Squire and sound design by ML Dogg / MuTTT. Projection design is by Brad Peterson.
Actually, We’re F**Ked is presented as part of Cherry Lane Theatre’s Founder’s Project, whose productions have included Out of the Mouths of Babes, starring Estelle Parsons and Judith Ivey and The Traveling Lady starring Karen Ziemba and Lynn Cohen.
