President Donald Trump is staying in Washington, DC for the holiday season, attempting to bridge the gap in budget negotiations between what he wants – funding for a wall on the Mexican border – and what his opposition wants, which is no wall on the Mexican border.
Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of government workers are on duty without pay or furloughed in a partial government shutdown. Some say the negotiations could stretch into next month.
While most members of Congress have scattered to their home districts for Christmas, the Commander-in-Tweet is hard at work, lobbying the public on the need for a barrier to check the flow of illegal immigration into the US.
“The only way to stop drugs, gangs, human trafficking, criminal elements and much else coming into our Country is with a Wall or Barrier,” said Trump’s tweet. “Drones and all of the rest are wonderful and lots of un, but it is only a good old fashioned Wall that works!”
Trump also had some good news: a new Secretary of Defense to replace James Mattis, who resigned last week, and a “productive” call with Turkish President Recep Erdogan.
