Crunchyroll, the anime and manga powerhouse, will partner with Fathom Events for a year-long slate of Crunchyroll Movie Night events that will take the brand to the big screen with 500 cinemas participating.

The partnership will yield a minimum of four Crunchyroll Movie Night events in 2019. The first will be the Jan. 5 exclusive first-look screening of the Season Two season premiere of Mob Psycho 100. The event precedes the popular show’s Jan. 7 broadcast premiere in Japan, which will also be simulcast via streaming on Crunchyroll through a partnership with Warner Bros. Japan.

Tickets for the Jan 5 preview event go on sale Friday through Fathom’s website. Crunchyroll’s two million subscribers can buy tickets starting Wednesday.

“At Crunchyroll, we are always exploring opportunities to connect our fans through the content they love,” said Brady McCollum, head of business operations, Crunchyroll, in a statement to Deadline. “Our community is going to have a blast enjoying the theatrical premiere of ‘Mob Psycho 100 II’ and we’re delighted to bring this experience to cinemas across the country with Fathom Events.”

Crunchyroll and Fathom collaborated on a Yuri!!! on ICE marathon in October. For Fathom, animation is sector of increasing emphasis. The cinema event distributor scheduled 27 animation events this year, a significant increase from the 17 animation events it handled in 2017. That animation programming in 2017 accounted for almost 20 percent of the distributor’s total revenue for that year.

“There are so many great animation titles that deserve a chance to shine on the big screen,” said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt. “We’re looking forward to working with Crunchyroll to put more of their films in front of cinema audiences, and give the fanbase an opportunity to experience it together.”
