Netflix’s long serving Vice-President of original series publicity will be taking over from the departing Teri Everett at the end of January as the Head of Marketing and Communications for Blumhouse Productions, we’ve learned
Always besides Chief Content Officer Sarandos and more recently VP, Originals Cindy Holland and helping to steer the Netflix ship into its vast ocean of programming the past six years, Barragan just informed her team this morning of the move.
“Blumhouse is bold and fearless,” said Barragan in a statement to Deadline today. “I’m intrigued by the ambitious vision set out by Jason and his team and looking forward to working across film and television in this role,” she added. That last bit is important as Barragan will oversee the promo machines for both Blumhouse Films and Blumhouse TV.
“I take immense pride in all that the global publicity team accomplished during my tenure at Netflix and am forever indebted to Ted and Cindy for their support,” the soon to be ex-streamer exec asserted. “It’s been an incredible ride and I reveled in every second of it.”
“Karen has been a pioneering and well-respected leader at one of the most innovative and successful media companies in history,” said Jason Blum on Friday. “We are thrilled she is joining the Blumhouse team to help bolster our global brand generate even greater anticipation and awareness for the incredible films and TV series we are producing.”
After just under two years at Blumhouse, ex-Universal Filmed Entertainment EVP Global Communication Everett is exiting the corporate world altogether. “Teri has been a terrific partner and has played an invaluable role in the ongoing growth of Blumhouse,” CEO Blum stated today “At the same time, I appreciate that she wants to do something completely different at this point in her life.”
No word yet who will be replacing Barragan at Netflix, stay tuned.
