Diane Nelson, who steered DC Entertainment and also led interactive content and consumer products during a 20-year run at Warner Bros. that ended last summer, has resurfaced in a senior role at Quibi.
She will run operations for the start-up led by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman. Quibi plan to launch its mobile video offering at the end of 2019 after raising more than $1 billion in initial funding.
Nelson, who confirmed the news via Facebook, became president of DC Entertainment in 2009, spearheading the development of the DC Universe movies and 11 scripted shows based on DC properties. Most of the shows, which are produced by Warner Bros. Television, air on the CW, a partnership between Warner Bros. and CBS.

Speculation about Nelson joining the fold began after Janice Min, the former magazine editor who has joined Quibi in a content role, tweeted a photo on Tuesday showing Nelson among a group posing with Steven Spielberg in Quibi’s offices. Nelson’s Facebook post also included a photo of her standing with Spielberg and Katzenberg. While the former DreamWorks principals have been close business associates for decades, the exact reason for the director’s appearance at Quibi is still unknown.
Quibi declined to comment when contacted by Deadline.
Nelson will be trading the comic-book world for the realm of mobile video. Quibi has started to slowly lift the veil on its content strategy, announcing a documentary series produced by Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. But Nelson’s hire is perhaps the clearest sign yet of the kind of swings the company plans to take. Last summer, Katzenberg told Deadline the company is keenly focused on getting commitments from creators, meeting with hundreds of them and securing testimonials from the likes of Disney CEO Bob Iger and longtime Fox exec Peter Rice.
