Fox has given a script plus presentation order to Lyle & Caroline, a half-hour animated comedy executive produced by Friends alumna Lisa Kudrow who also will provide voiceover. The project hails from Lionsgate and the company’s 3 Arts Entertainment.

Written/executive produced by Eric and Justin Stangel (Late Show with David Letterman), Lyle & Caroline is a family show driven by the friendship of Lyle & Caroline – a surrogate grandparent/grandchild bond forms in an unexpected way.

Kudrow will be voicing Caroline, the high school-aged grandchild. 3 Arts’ David Miner also executive produces.

Lyle & Caroline is part of Fox’s push into animation under entertainment president Michael Thorn. As part of that, the network this fall ordered two new animated series for next season, Bless the Harts, from Emily Spivey, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Seth Cohen, which stars Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jillian Bell and Ike Barinholtz; and Amy Poehler’s Duncanville. The network also recently ordered a presentation for animated comedy The Great North, from Bob Burgers creator/executive producer Loren Bouchard and the Emmy-winning Fox animated series’ writers/co-executive producers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux.

This marks a return to Fox and animation for the Stangel brothers whose first joint professional TV job was working on the final season of the Fox animated series The Tick. From 1997 until 2013, the duo worked on CBS‘ Late Show with David Letterman, rising through the ranks from staff writers to Head Writers and Executive Producer. They hold the title as having served as the longest tenured Head Writers in Late Show history.

Kudrow, also known for her series The Comeback and Web Therapy, previously did voiceover work on Netflix’s BoJack Horseman. is repped by CAA and attorney Mark Gochman. The Stangels are represented by CAA, 3 Arts and attorney Melissa Fox at HJTH.
