EXCLUSIVE: Fortitude International has optioned two female-driven properties from recently hatched curation platform TaleFlick: historical fiction Madame Presidentess and essay collection Starfish On Thursday. Both center on strong women going up against overwhelming adversity. The company is eyeing feature adaptations of each.
Madame Presidentess depicts the real life of Victoria Woodhull, the first woman who dared to run for President of the United States in 1872 but was virtually written out of the history books. It hails from award-winning author Nicole Evelina whose other books include Daughter Of Destiny, Camelot’s Queen, Been Searching For You and The Once And Future Queen: Guinevere In Arthurian Legend.
Book-To-Screen Platform TaleFlick Launches Production Arm
Starfish is the true story of a Seattle girl growing up in the 70s and 80s while dealing with an abusive, pill-popping mother. Author Amie Ryan, whose essay collections examine American culture, had a viral hit with The Seattle NO in 2013. Her other books include Green Shoes Mean I Love You, Secrets From The Star Jar and Marilyn Monroe biography Marylin: Loved By You which was a No. 1 bestseller in its category on both Amazon U.S. and Amazon UK.
TaleFlick was founded by producer Uri Singer and former Apple and Netflix exec George Berry. A platform of searchable content for producers and studios to option books, it’s designed to empower authors globally. Over a dozen unique projects have already been optioned from TaleFlick’s library.
Fortitude’s Nadine de Barros says, “I am so impressed with TaleFlick. This platform allows us to find amazing IP with the click of a button. These stories are ripe for big screen adaptation, which we would not have otherwise discovered.”
Fortitude’s previous adaptations include The End Of The Tour starring Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segel, based on the novel Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself by David Lipsky; The Tribes Of Palos Verdes with Jennifer Garner, Maika Monroe and Ben Hardy, based on the novel of the same name by Joy Nicholson; The Clapper adapted from Eddie Krumble Is the Clapper, starring Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried, Tracy Morgan and Adam Levine.
Up next on Fortitude’s slate is JT, the true story of JT LeRoy, a girl pretending to be a boy, duping the rich and famous in Hollywood. Kristen Stewart, Laura Dern, Diane Kruger and Jim Sturgess star.
