If Democrats do not give President Donald Trump the money he wants to build the beloved Border Wall he had promised he would make Mexico pay for, “We” will be “forced to close the Southern Border entirely,” a frustrated Trump threatened Friday morning via Twitter.
Tweeting on Day 7 of his government shutdown over border wall funding, Trump wrote that the U.S. “looses soooo much money on Trade with Mexico under NAFTA, over 75 Billion Dollars a year (not including Drug Money which would be many times that amount), that I would consider closing the Southern Border a ‘profit making operation’.”
“We build a Wall or close the Southern Border. Bring our car industry back into the United States where it belongs. Go back to pre-NAFTA, before so may of our companies and jobs were so foolishly sent to Mexico. Either we build (finish) the Wall or we close the Border,” Trump tweeted.
Trump has long threatened to toss NAFTA which he calls the “worst trade deal ever.” Trump recently signed a replacement pact with along with Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, called the United States-Mexico-Canada-Agreement – USMCA. The House and Senate must sign off on it.
Meanwhile, Trump tweets.
“Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador are doing nothing for the United States but taking our money,” Trump tweeted this morning. “Word is that a new Caravan is forming in Honduras and they are doing nothing about it. We will be cutting off all aid to these 3 countries – taking advantage of U.S. for years!”
Friday morning, incoming Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney confirmed to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House their previous reporting that the GOP had offered Dems a deal that included about $2.5B from U.S. to finance Trump’s paid-for-by-Mexico Border Wall. That’s far short of the $5B Trump is demanding for his wall.
