EXCLUSIVE: Deadline has learned that Candice McDonough is coming back to Warner Bros as Senior Vice President, Theatrical Communications. While Warner Bros. has yet to make the news official, it’s a deal that has been in the works.
McDonough’s arrival follows yesterday’s news about the studio’s spokesperson Jack Horner moving to Dee Dee Myers’ Worldwide Corporate Communications team. In the wake of Toby Emmerich’s promotion from New Line boss in Dec. 2016 to Chairman of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Group, word is he wanted to select his own spokesperson. Deadline hears that McDonough will report directly to Emmerich.
Between her time at New Line and Warner Bros., McDonough counts a 15-year-plus career. She started at New Line in 2001 and segued over to the parent company in 2008 when they took a greater oversee of the mini-major. Known for her keen insight on the industry, passionate interest in film, as well as her longstanding relationships with reporters, agents, and producers, McDonough has long been a valued consigliere to Emmerich. Colleagues on both sides of the studio and the media respect McDonough for her frank demeanor in sizing up industry affairs, and in her new post she’ll be overseeing Warner Bros.’ communications on box office, marketing, deals and executive shuffles.
Said Emmerich this morning, “Candice is a smart, strategic communications executive who knows the film business inside and out, has excellent instincts, great media relationships and a proven track record. I’ve known and worked with Candice for more than 15 years, so this is a homecoming of sorts. I’m excited to have her back on the team to provide her expertise and counsel as the Pictures Group continues to navigate the constantly evolving entertainment landscape.”
While at New Line, McDonough worked on their big pics such as Wedding Crashers, We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses, The Conjuring and The Hobbit.
Previous McDonough served as the EVP for EuropaCorp stateside while Luc Besson was making his passion project Valerian. She left Warner Bros in April 2015 for that post. Following EuropaCorp, McDonough worked as a consultant to Bold Films.
