Illusionist Vitaly Beckman, who fooled magicians Penn & Teller on their CW magic show Fool Us, will have an Off-Broadway run in the same theater where the duo launched their career in the 1980s.

Vitaly: An Evening of Wonders, produced by Daryl Roth, will play the Westside Theatre on West 43rd Street from June 13 to September 30. Opening night will be Thursday, June 21.

“Vitaly fooled us with his humor and amazing magic,” Penn & Teller said in a joint statement. “We are so proud he’s opening at the Westside Theatre, where we first opened our show in New York over 30 years ago. He is an ingenious inventor, full of charming surprises.”

Roth, whose producing credits include Tony winners such as Kinky Boots and Indecent, recalled being “totally mesmerized” when she was introduced to Beckman. “I don’t know how he does it, but I cannot wait for everyone to experience his extraordinary and amazing performance,” she said.

Added Beckman, whose show has had stops in Las Vegas, Seattle, Toronto and a few other markets, “I’ve heard that it takes a lot to shock and astonish New Yorkers, but I think I may have a few surprises in store.”

The illusionists work (for a taste, see the video below) includes paintings coming alive, still photographs that turn into mini-movies, and time reversing itself as bare broken tree branches visibly repair while sprouting new green leaves. One of his most popular illusions sees audience members’ faces disappearing from their own driver’s licenses.

Beckman was raised in Israel and is now based in Vancouver.
