
EXCLUSIVE: Vertical Entertainment has acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights to Robert Siegel’s romance drama Cruise, starring Emily Ratajkowski and Spencer Boldman. The pic will get a theatrical release this year. Siegel, who wrote an directed the film, penned the screenplays for The Wrestler and The Founder starring Michael Keaton.
Cruise is set in the summer of 1987 and follows Gio (Boldman), an Italian kid from Queens who has little on his mind but cars and girls. Gio thinks he’s got it all figured out until he meets Jessica (Ratajkowski), a nice Jewish girl from Long Island who likes to go undercover for illicit thrills on the wrong side of the tracks.
Laura Walker Lee, Holly Brown, Alex Garcia and Scott LaStaiti produced the project with AG Capital and AG Studios in association with Slated, while Siegel and Gino Cafarelli are executive producers.
The deal was negotiated by Rich Goldberg and Peter Jarowey at Vertical and UTA along with Laura Walker at AG Capital on behalf of the filmmakers.
