The upcoming fifth season of TNT’s action drama The Last Ship will be its last, TNT and TBS boss Kevin Reilly confirmed to Deadline after the Turner upfront presentation today.

A sixth season of the show had been considered unlikely.

There had been a flurry of rumors about The Last Ship, which shot Season 4 and Season 5 back-to-back, coming to an end. When production on the two seasons wrapped last fall, cast member Travis Van Winkle posted (and subsequently deleted) on Instagram about wrapping production on Season 5, which he referred to “series wrap,” reminiscing on the show’s five-year run. While the network at the time issued a statement to dispel the rumors, those involved in the series did not expect it to go beyond five seasons. That has now been made official.

There is no Season 5 premiere date yet, but it will be coming shortly. And good news for fans — Season 5 is not ending in a cliffhanger.

The Last Ship, a leftover from TNT’s previous regime, has been a solid performer but not as potent as earlier on in its run. It’s the network’s third most-watched series behind Major Crimes and The Librarians, though it is older-skewing and its fourth season was down double-digits in the ratings from the previous year.
