After taking last week off, ABC’s Roseanne redux failed to top total viewers on Tuesday for the first time since the sitcom’s return to air after a two-decade break.
Part 1 of Pauley Perrette’s two-part so-long on CBS’s NCIS (1.2 demo rating, 12.12 million viewers) took the top spot in total viewers, clunking Roseanne (2.5, 10.3M) which fumbled 23% of its previous original’s overall audience.
Roseanne’s demo rating also tumbled, 26% compared to its most recent original’s 3.5, but still dominated the night, followed by lead-out The Middle (1.5, 6.10).
Blame the east-coast arrival of long-overdue spring-like weather for some of Roseanne’s ratings woes. The long-waited spring, and NCIS’s heart-tugger also hit NBC’s 8 PM The Voice (1.2, 7.48M), which suffered a demo series low for a regular broadcast.
ABC’s 9 and 9:30 PM comedies, Blackish (1.2, 4.57M) and Splitting Up Together (1.1, 3.89M) enjoyed upticks, thanks in part to The Middle generating stronger 8:30 PM stats than did Alex, Inc two weeks earlier, out of the previous most recent Roseanne original. ABC had aired a four-repeat Roseanne-a-thon from 8-10 PM last week.
NBC’s Rise (0.7, 3.83M), and Fox’s Lethal Weapon (0.7, 3.07M), LA to Las Vegas season finale (0.5, 1.80M) and New Girl (0.5, 1.46M).
At 10 PM, CBS’s NCIS: New Orleans (0.9, 8.11M) beat its combined timeslot competition in total viewers, while tying NBC’s Chicago Med (0.9, 5.75M) in the demo. ABC’s For the People (0.6, 2.23M) also-ran.
CBS (1.1, 10.18M) clobbered its competition in total viewers. ABC (1.3, 4.89M) took primetime in the demo. NBC (0.9, 5.69M) came in third demo-wise and second in overall audience, followed by Fox (0.6, 2.32M) and CW (0.5, 1.37M).
