SAG-AFTRA senior manager of national member education and outreach Ron Thomas died on May 3 in West Hollywood. The cause of death has yet to be reported. He was 46.
In addition to being a SAG-AFTRA executive, Thomas was a popular DJ in Los Angeles. Thomas grew up in Van Nuys and attended Pepperdine University. He started working at Groove Radio after college which led way to a job at Thunderpuss Studios and then Barry Manilow’s Stiletto entertainment.
Thomas joined AFTRA in 2005 as part of the union’s sound recording department and then moved on to the communications department in 2009. In 2012, he continues with SAG-AFTRA when the two unions merged. As a senior manager at SAG-AFTRA, Thomas implemented and oversaw strategic partnerships and sponsorships nationwide with key industry, labor and community organizations. He also led advertising sales for the union’s publications.
Wehoville first reported Thomas’ death. “It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell to West Hollywood resident Ron Thomas who passed away sometime on the morning of May 3, 2018,” said his family and close friends in a statement.
Thomas’ death comes after the death of his husband of 23 years Phil Hoskins, died in November 2017.
A memorial is slated to be held during Los Angeles Pride weekend on June 9 and 10.
