Netflix issued a tease for Michelle Wolf’s new series The Break with Michelle Wolf in which the comedian “pokes fun at everything and everybody,” Netflix said, including, we hope, what appears to be her on-air-off-again trademark high-pitched voice, which you may notice if you don’t blink during her demonstration/endorsement of “the stirrups feature” while seated on a toilet.
Netflix is billing her new show, launching Sunday, May 27, as one that takes “a break from the seriousness of today’s late night comedy.” With an expensive desk.
In advance of her Netflix debut, the former The Daily Show correspondent upped her profile when she became the latest White House Correspondents Dinner performer/torcher. “It went great, and every single person loved it,” Wolf deadpanned afterwards to her former Late Night boss Seth Meyers.
“Across the board, everyone loved it – even Sarah Huckabee Sanders called me and she was like, ‘I loved it so much! I got every joke’.”
Meyers noted Sanders, filling in for boycotting President Donald Trump on the dais, was giving a very good impression during her performance, of someone who was not enjoying, or understanding, some of Wolf’s material.
“Well, you know, you give the best information you have at the time,” Wolf shot back without missing a beat, and stealing some of Sanders’ best material. The White House press secretary had used that same gag at one of her recent briefings when asked why her version of what Trump did know, and when, about porn star Stormy Daniels, differed so much from what Trump’s new personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani had just told Sean Hannity on Fox News.
