Meredith Corp. is continuing its overhaul of Time Inc.’s assets as it fully absorbs the acquisition of the iconic publisher, announcing what it calls a “new look, name and direction” of its in-house TV production company.
The shop, formerly Time Inc. Productions, will now be called Four M Studios. It will be able to draw on content emanating from Meredith titles, including key Time brands such as People and Entertainment Weekly, while also developing long-form projects independent of the magazine portfolio. Since its inception, Four M Studios projects have been bought by networks including ABC, A&E, Apple Worldwide Video, Paramount Network, Investigation Discovery and Netflix, the company said.

“We evolved quickly and successfully in just over two years by leveraging our trusted iconic brands, promotional scale and super-serving creative worlds that consumers and networks are drawn to,” said Bruce Gersh, President of People, Entertainment Weekly and People en Espanol, and Head of Four M Studios. “We develop and produce award-winning, high quality, compelling long-form television content. Four M Studios has partnered with some of the best storytellers and is primed to continue to capitalize on this momentum.”
Four M’s The Story of the Royals is currently in production for ABC. It follows last summer’s The Story of Diana, which reached a nine-year ratings high in its timeslot for the network. Investigation Discovery recently announced the expansion of the People Magazine Investigates franchise, with new series exploring cults and fashion-related crimes.
Time Inc. Productions was established in 2016 in an effort to afford the company more creative control of stories going from print to long-form video. Four M Studios will continue to distribute shows through its international distribution arm.
Meredith’s $2.8 billion acquisition of Time closed last November. A few of the bedrock Time titles that don’t fit the company’s emphasis on lifestyle, food, entertainment and home — including Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune and Money — are in the process of being sold.
