The Huangs’ American dream continues. ABC has given a fifth-season order to the family comedy starring Randall Park and Constance Wu, from 20th Century Fox TV.
Created by Nahnatchka Khan based on the memoir by Eddie Huang, the single-camera Fresh Off the Boat premiered in February 2015 as the first Asian-American family comedy on TV in two decades. It has aired in various slots on Tuesday night, most recently at 8:30 PM this past fourth season, which wrapped on March 20, averaging a 1.3 adults 18-49 Live+7 rating.
Fresh Off the Boat follows the Huang family — Mom, Dad, three young brothers and their Mandarin-speaking grandma — who move from Washington, D.C., to Orlando in the mid-1990s. Wu and Park are the parents of rap-loving high schooler Eddie (Hudson Yang) and his younger sibs Emery (Forrest Wheeler) and Evan (Ian Chen). Jenny Huang is the wheelchair-bound grandma who always knows more than she lets on.
Writer Khan also executive produces alongside Jake Kasdan.
