EXCLUSIVE: Justice League and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them star Ezra Miller will play the young Salvador Dali in Mary Harron’s upcoming biopic Dali Land. Miller, also well known for starring in Cannes Film Festival dramas We Need To Talk About Kevin and Afterschool, will play the young Dalí through a series of flashbacks.
As we revealed last week, Ben Kingsley, Lesley Manville, Tim Roth and Frank Dillane will star in Dali Land, which Bankside Films is selling in Cannes. Kingsley will play iconic surrealist painter Dali. Harron will direct from her screenplay co-written with John C Walsh.
Set in New York and Spain in 1973, the story is told through the eyes of James (Dillane), a young gallery assistant who helps Dalí prepare for a big show. While James hopes to learn some of the secrets of great art from one of the 20th century’s greatest painters, he instead falls down a rabbit hole of glittering parties, personal battles, and an art world awash with money and drama. Manville will play Dali’s domineering wife, and Roth the painter’s right-hand man.
Pic was developed by Edward R. Pressman and entrepreneur David O. Sacks and is set to shoot in Canada and Spain in November and December. Christina Piovesan in Toronto and Charlotte and Philip Colbert of Popcorn Films in London are producing. Pressman, Sacks, Daniel Brunt, Jon Katz, Hannah Leader, Michael R. Newman and Sam Pressman are executive producers.
Miller will next be seen in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and will star as The Flash in DC Universe’s stand-alone movie. He is repped by Paradigm and Peikoff Mahan Law Office.
