Mean Girls and My Fair Lady are taking to the road: With the Broadway productions of the musicals up for a combined 22 Tony Awards, national tours for both shows were announced today for fall 2019.
Dates, cities and casting were not announced for either show.
Mean Girls, the musical comedy based on Fey’s 2004 film and produced by Lorne Michaels, Stuart Thompson, Sonia Friedman and Paramount Pictures, is up for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical; Best Book (Fey); Best Original Score (Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin); Best Direction of a Musical and Best Choreography (Casey Nicholaw).
“Working with Tina and Jeff to bring Mean Girls to Broadway these past five years has been one of the happiest experiences of my life,” said producer Lorne Michaels. “We’re so proud of the show and thrilled people all over the country will see it.”
Mean Girls opened on Broadway last month at the August Wilson Theatre.
My Fair Lady, directed by the Tony-nominated Bartlett Sher, opened last month at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater, and is up for 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and Best Actor and Actress (Harry Hadden-Paton, Lauren Ambrose).
The tour was announced, and will be produced, by Nederlander Presentations.
