The 2018 Billboard Music Awards will be shown in China as part of a new three-year pact struck but show producer Dick Clark Productions, STX Entertainment and Chinese Internet giant Tencent. The deal is the third tie-up for the companies, which previously teamed to roll out the dcp-produced Golden Globes and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest in the Middle Kingdom.
The deal for the annual BBMAs runs runs through 2020. This year’s show is set to air live on NBC on May 20 from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, with Kelly Clarkson hosting. It is the first telecast of the show on NBC after the network acquired rights to the show in a multi-year deal; its contract with ABC expired after the 2017 broadcast.
STXdigital will oversee the Chinese distribution rights pact to the BBMAs in partnership with Tencent. They will also team to create original content from the red carpet.
