EXCLUSIVE: WME has signed Anthony Byrne for representation in all areas. The director, whose feature In Darkness releases via Vertical Entertainment in domestic theaters next month, has also been set to helm the 5th season of period gangster epic Peaky Blinders.

Byrne’s previous recent credits include Butterfly, a three-part drama starring Anna Friel for ITV. He co-wrote thriller In Darkness with Game Of Thrones‘ Natalie Dormer. It will be available on Netflix later this summer, after the U.S. theatrical release.

Byrne, who hails from Dublin, will pick up the Peaky Blinders reins from Season 4’s David Caffrey. The saga of the Shelby clan, which has a rabid international fan base, is created and written by Steven Knight. It has typically switched directors through each season with previous helmers including Otto Bathurst, Tom Harper, Colm McCarthy, Tim Mielants and Caffrey. Season 5, which has been mooted as the maybe-maybe-not final go-round for the Shelby clan, led by Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby, is due for air on BBC Two in 2019. Netflix holds U.S. rights.

Byrne continues to be managed by 42.
