The first trailer has dropped for Cannes opener Everybody Knows, starring Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Ricardo Darin. Cannes announced earlier today that Oscar-winner Asghar Farhadi’s Spanish-language movie would kick off the festival.
The thriller, which is produced by France’s Memento Films Production and Spain’s Morena Films, follows a Spanish woman, played by Cruz, who lives in Buenos Aires in Argentina and returns to her home in Madrid with her Argentinean husband and children. However, a series of unexpected events brings a number of secrets out into public. Two-time Oscar winner Farhadi’s (A Separation) movie is only the second Spanish-language film to open Cannes following Pedro Almodovar’s Bad Education in 2004. Farhadi’s The Salesman also played in Cannes. Memento handles international sales.
