EXCLUSIVE: The Good Doctor is beefing up its surgeon ranks ahead of Season 2 with Will Yun Lee, Fiona Gubelmann and Christina Chang, who recurred in Season 1, all promoted to series regulars. Additionally, there is good news in the romance department for Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore): Paige Spara, who recurred in the first half of Season 1 as Shaun’s sweet neighbor (and love interest) Lea, will be returning, also joining the cast as a series regular.

Meanwhile, original cast member Chuku Modu will not be returning next season. His character, surgical resident Dr. Jared Kalu, had been on thin ice since punching a doctor who had sexually harassed his girlfriend, fellow resident Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas). He was fired and used legal blackmail to secure reinstatement but never was fully accepted by his bosses, recently broke up with Claire and landed a surgeon job in Colorado.
Chang’s Dr. Audrey Lim has emerged as a formidable counterpart to Dr. Neil Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez), with the duo often splitting up the growing group of residents between them.

Gubelmann and Lee have been recent additions as Dr. Morgan Reznick, a cutthroat new resident, and Dr. Alex Park, an ex-cop who changed careers and also is a new resident on the team.
We last saw Spara’s Lea in the two-part midseason premiere when she took Shaun on a road trip before leaving San Jose to return home on the East Coast. Spara is repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment and Paradigm.
Hawaii Five-0 alum Lee also recently had roles in Falling Water and Altered Carbon. On the film side, he will be seen in Rampage, opposite Dwayne Johnson. Lee is repped by Gersh and Zero Gravity Management.
Gubelmann, who also recently starred on VH1’s Daytime Divas, is repped by Gersh, Haven and Morris Yorn.
Chang, who recently recurred on Rizzoli & Isles and Nashville, is with Silver Lining Entertainment.
In its freshman season, The Good Doctor, from Sony Pictures TV and ABC Studios, was a breakout hit and received an early Season 2 renewal last month.
